Dr. James P. Frackelton's father was a well-known ear, nose, and throat physician in Lakewood, Ohio. Although he encouraged his son to follow him in practice, Dr. Frackelton was more interested in family practice and treating the entire body. He received his Medical Degree from Case Western Reserve, spent another year in Immunology and hospital training, and served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy for two and a half years before opening his own practice in Westlake in 1958.
When Dr. Frackelton opened his practice there were five physicians serving the Westlake community. One passed away, another retired, the third became an Anesthesiologist, and the fourth lost his practice after running afoul of the law which left Dr. Frackelton as the community's sole medical practitioner at the time.
In 1976, Dr. Frackelton changed the direction of his medical practice to emphasize the benefits of preventive medicine and founded Preventive Medicine Group. We met with Dr. Frackelton recently, and listened as he described the services his practice offers;
Preventive Medicine Group is an innovative clinic employing a wide range of unique and progressive therapies including chelation therapy, anti-aging medicine, natural bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, hyperbaric oxygen treatment, homeopathy, energy medicine, acupuncture, and allergy testing and desensitization, along with testing and treatment for heavy metal toxicity. We treat healthy people who want to stay healthy, as well as those with health problems seeking complementary or alternative therapies. Our patients tend to be (or will be) well informed regarding nutrition and its place in preventive health care. They recognize, as we do, that the body and mind are intricately connected and that both must be healthy for each to operate efficiently.
Preventive medicine is more accurately defined as complimentary alternative medicine, meaning that is a complimentary modality to standard medicine. Although we do employ pharmaceutical drugs when needed, our work is centered around nutrition and de-poisoning the body, two areas typically not addressed by standard medicine. The human body has a wonderful capacity to heal itself when supplied with the proper nutrients and freed of harmful toxins. We strive to discover what the body needs, remove the toxins, and replace harmful pharmaceutical drugs by encouraging proper nutrition that aids in improving the body's natural immune system. From a logical standpoint, this approach works a lot better than trying to use a lot of symptom blocking drugs which don't necessarily solve the underlying problem.
Many new patients will tell us they are seeing several doctors and are taking quite a few prescription drugs. Through simply changing their nutritional habits and de-toxifying their bodies, they find they no longer need the prescription drugs and their condition clearly begins to improve.
Our practice consists of three Medical Doctors and one Naturopathic Doctor. Derrick Lonsdale, M.D., F.A.C.A.M. received his medical degree from the University of London, England. He served as a pediatric consultant at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and has developed a thorough knowledge of the role of biochemistry and nutrition in treating disease. Stanley M. Gardner, M.D. has become an expert in all facets of alternative medicine and improving the energy of the body. A certified practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu, one of which is the healing arts of Oriental Medicine, Dr. Gardner has found significant improvements in learning and behavior through changing the diet and proper nutrition supplementation. His areas of special interest include chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, allergy, hormonal imbalances, weight loss, and nutrition.
Laura DeVincentis, N.D., M.S.O.M., R.Ac. blends conventional sciences with traditional naturopathic modalities through the use of herbs, homeopathy, and holistic principles. She focuses much of her attention toward the use of Acupuncture and Cosmetic Acupuncture, Reiki, and energy modulation.
We work with children as well as adults, and welcome new patients who are seeking evaluation, guidance, and instruction on optimum health through balanced diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes. Often we find simple corrections to lifelong habits can bring about enormous positive change.
At Preventive Medicine Group, bodies, minds, and proper nutrition are the keys to establishing and maintaining optimal health. Call Preventive Medicine Group today, and don't forget to tell them The Advocate sent you!
