As a professional woman, Mary DeCapua found resale consignment shops to be an excellent way to stretch her clothing dollars. When her employer explained to his employees that the business was closing, Mary decided to become her own boss and founded Classic Closet in 1994. We visited with Mary recently, and listened as she provided this overview of Classic Closet's offerings;
Classic Closet offers a wide variety of very high quality, upscale ladies clothing. The consigner is a very important part of this business as we accept items for resale only on consignment and display these items for their respective owners. I am very selective about the articles I accept, and insist that each garment be no older than a year and a half to two years old. They must be exceptionally clean, in a current style, and have absolutely no trace of cigarette smoke or perfume odor. Some of the labels I carry are Chico's, Coldwater Creek, Ellen Tracy, Ann Taylor, Dana Buckman, Louis Vuitton, and August Max. (please check spelling of these labels)
I carry maternity wear, coats, boots and shoes, genuine designer purses, and a lot of evening wear. Classic Closet also has a very large selection of plus sizes all the way up to 4X featuring excellent quality fabric. Many items have never been worn, and a lot of them come with the original tags. Often women will purchase items of clothing, decide they don't want them, and instead of taking them back to the store they will bring them to me.
My prices are very reasonable, and you can find clothing here for $30.00 that might sell for $100.00 somewhere else. I inspect every item that comes in to ensure it's in perfect condition. As a seamstress myself I used to make my own clothing so I learned about fabric at a young age and insist the items I carry are of the highest quality.
